Panel Discussant: Walid Hejazi

WalidHejazi.jpgDr. Walid Hejazi is an Associate Professor of Business Economics, and Academic Director, at the Rotman School of Management where he teaches Canada’s current and future business leaders in the MBA, EMBA, and custom Executive programs. Walid has developed a course in Islamic Finance in the MBA program at the University of Toronto, the first such course in Canada. He has published extensively in many academic and business journals. Walid balances his research activities by helping many of Canada’s leading organizations leverage research to develop and deploy new strategies and initiatives. He has consulted for the Canadian and foreign governments on themes related to international competitiveness and has appeared several times before parliamentary committees. He is currently working to enhance the Rotman presence in the Middle East, and has been working closely with Mubadala, an arm of the Abu Dhabi government on Training.

 

 

Rana Mougharbel:

rana.jpgWith over 15 years of financial services experience, Rana El-Mogharbel has been actively focused on providing discretionary investment management services to high net worth individuals and families, estates & trusts, and charitable and business organizations. As a Portfolio Manager with TD Wealth Private Investment Counsel, she addresses high networth clients’ financial needs and helps them meet their life objectives regarding their work and career, well-being, home, lifestyle and legacy. Rana’s track record in the financial industry speaks for itself.  She has had exposure to investment management, corporate banking and head office strategic planning.  Rana has been with TD Waterhouse Private Investment Counsel for almost eight years.  Prior to that, she worked in credit/investment analysis and relationship management with some of the world’s most prestigious financial institutions, including HSBC and Gulf Bank in Kuwait, where she provided high net-worth clients with financial solutions.

 Rana has demonstrated a commitment to continuous education. She has a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) with a specialization in portfolio management and corporate finance and a Masters of Arts in Economics (MA). She also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and the Canadian Investment Manager (CIM) designations. A resident of Toronto, Rana is a member of the Toronto CFA society and is actively involved in her community. When Rana has a spare moment, she likes to exercise, travel and spend time with her husband, family and friends.


Ziad Said

Ziad_Said.pngZiad Said is a partner in KPMG’s Financial Institutions and Real Estate Practice. He has over 12 years experience auditing and advising financial institutions in Canada. He attended the University of Western Ontario where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree (math) then went to the University of Toronto to pursue his CA requirements.

Mohamad Sawwaf

Mohamad Sawwaf is a Wealth Management Director for Investors Group Financial Services Inc. He has over 7 years experience managing personal and corporate finances where he provides advice in areas such as tax, estate, risk management and investment planning. He has an exceptional track record of business achievement and has a proven ability to manage, motivate and influence others through strong and effective communication skills and a commitment to realizing individual and team success through innovation and creativity. Mohamad has sat on previous not-for profit boards where his decision, multi-tasking and organizational skills have been called upon frequently. He attended the University of Toronto where he obtained his Honours Bachelor’s of Science degree and is currently a Certified Professional Consultant on Aging. He is also undertaking his Certified Financial Planner designation.

 

 

 

Samir Zabaneh:

Samir Zabaneh is the Chief Financial and Operating Officer of Moneris Solutions Corp.     In his role, Samir is accountable for all financial aspects of the company, including reporting, treasury, strategic and financial planning, corporate development and mergers and acquisitions.  Samir is also accountable for the operations of the company including merchant experience and customer services and delivery.   Finally, Samir is responsible for the development and implementation of Moneris’ corporate strategy. 

Prior to joining Moneris, Samir was a Managing Director with Fortress Investment Group, a leading global hedge fund and alternative asset management company.  Samir was Chief Financial Officer of Northcastle Trust, an open-ended investment trust managed by Fortress.  Previously, Samir was Chief Financial Officer of Q9 Networks Inc., a leading Canadian Internet infrastructure provider.  After joining the company in its early stages, he helped grow the business to the leadership position it enjoys today, including taking the company public on the Toronto Stock Exchange in 2004.  Samir’s background also includes significant experience in investment banking and mergers and acquisitions transactions gained with Newcourt Capital (now CIT Structured Finance), PricewaterhouseCoopers Securities Inc. and Ernst & Young Corporate Finance Inc. Samir holds an MBA from Suffolk University, a Master of Science in Finance from Boston College and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Northeastern University.
