Noura Hamade - Director of Research and Policy
Noura Hamade is a dedicated researcher with expertise in epidemiology and biostatistics. She has worked in patient education at the University Health Network Hospitals and as a researcher in the Department of Global Health at the University of Toronto, focusing on women’s health in countries in conflict. Noura has actively engaged in studies exploring the resilience and well-being of marginalized populations. Her involvement in projects examining the mental health and integration of Syrian refugees has highlighted the importance of addressing the unique challenges faced by displaced communities. Noura's research has encompassed various aspects of public health, with a particular emphasis on understanding the impact of hatred on health and well-being. She has engaged in studies exploring the effects of discrimination and hatred on marginalized communities, aiming to shed light on these pressing concerns and develop evidence-based interventions. As the Public Education and Outreach Lead at Epilepsy Toronto, Noura has acquired valuable experience building connections with diverse community organizations. She has actively worked to combat stigma associated with epilepsy and other invisible disabilities. Noura has also collaborated with community health centers to provide educational sessions on seizure first aid, fostering safe environments for individuals with epilepsy.
Kathryn - Manager of Communications and Operations
Kathryn is a strong advocate for the representation of Middle-Eastern individuals within media and entertainment. As a Communications Manager, Kathryn aims to bridge the gap between current research and a broader national audience, seeking to amplify the impact and engagement with readers while sharing the rich culture and heritage of the Middle East. Driven by her aspirations for a career in the field in science, Kathryn firmly believes that the disparities in patient treatment often stem from the limited representation of healthcare professionals within the community.
Rawan Mustafa - Manager of Communications and Operations
Rawan is a Palestinian who grew up in the United Arab Emirates, and moved to Toronto to pursue her B.A in Sociology and Equity Studies (2020), and later her M.Ed in Developmental Psychology and Education (2022), both at the University of Toronto. Since her education she has gained a wealth of experience in community outreach and has a steadfast dedication to empowering diverse populations. Rawan Mustafa is proud to assume the role of Manager of Communications and Operations at the Canadian Arab Institute. Her extensive background includes providing unwavering support to at-risk youth, collaborating with community organizations, and advocating for comprehensive resources. A passionate advocate for her Arab heritage, Rawan is committed to advancing the well-being of her community and all it represents.
