"Lemons" Wins Best Indie Short Film at Independent Short Awards in Los Angeles

The Canadian Arab Institute is proud to announce that "Lemons," a short film produced by OpenScreenplay and funded by the Canadian Arab Institute, has been awarded the coveted title of "Best Indie Short Film" at the Independent Short Awards in Los Angeles. The "Lemons" screenplay, written by Rayan Jalal, made a significant impact in Arab Stories: Debunking Arab Myths Contest by OpenScreenplay and the Canadian Arab Institute. The screenplay received an honourable mention, highlighting its cultural significance and powerful storytelling.

Sami Sabawi, Co-Founder & Chief Operating Officer of Open Screenplay, shared his thoughts on the film's success:

Film Synopsis:
"Lemons" tells a heartwarming tale of a young Muslim girl who, while preparing dinner for new college friends, embarks on a mission to borrow a lemon. In the process, she forms an unexpected and touching bond with her elderly neighbour.
