CAI launches #YallaVoteCanada
Toronto, September 2, 2021 - The Canadian Arab Institute (CAI) is excited to launch our voter information campaign, #YallaVoteCanada! In the next 20 days, Canadians from coast to coast to coast will be heading to the polls to choose which candidate they want to represent them in Ottawa.
#YallaVoteCanada keeps Arab-Canadians informed about the electoral process and voting process in anticipation of the upcoming election on September 20th. By providing information about the election in English, French, and Arabic, CAI hopes to encourage Arab-Canadians to fulfill their civic duties as citizens, while also amplifying the voice of the Arab-Canadian community through civic engagement.
Given the unprecedented challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic has posed on different aspects of life in Canada, CAI wants to ensure that access to voting and motivation to cast the ballot is not changed by these circumstances. #YallaVoteCanada is presented as an extensive resource that addresses each step of the voting process and demystifies any question regarding the Canadian government system.
During the 2019 Federal Elections, 67% of the Canadian population was able to cast their vote, while only 54% of those between the ages of 18-24 casted a ballot. Engaging voters in this age group, the youth demographic, is one of the major goals of the #YallaVoteCanada campaign. Since youth make up 60% of the Arab-Canadian population, amplifying the voice of youth is essential to the Canadian Arab community and the CAI, as we are constantly working towards providing a space where their concerns are heard and valued. If you identify as a youth, please take the time to fill out this survey so that we understand what your priorities are.
Through #YallaVoteCanada, we also hope to show how important elections are, even to those who may not be eligible to vote yet. By encouraging all those interested in elections and Canadian politics to inform themselves and spread their knowledge to others, this campaign can grow to different parts of the community beyond those eligible to vote in Election 44.
